Subject EncyclopediasBesides general encyclopedias, which cover all fields of study, we have literally hundreds, if not thousands, of encyclpedias that focus on a particular topic or field of study. Two major collections of subject encyclopedias (and other types of reference sources) are listed below: Gale Virtual Reference LibraryThe Gale Virtual Reference Library is an online collection of encyclopedias, dictionaries, biography sources, statistics, and other information. For better search results, be sure to try the Advanced Search feature. Oxford Reference OnlineOxford Reference Online is a collection of dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference works from Oxford University Press. For better search results, be sure to try the Advanced Search feature. Subject Encyclopedias in InfoTreeThe links below point to sections of InfoTree which highlight selected encyclopedias for various academic discipliness. Each subject listed has at least 3 records in InfoTree, as of June 2008. Using ALICE to Find Subject EncyclopediasYou can find many more subject encyclopedias in ALICE by doing a Keyword search following this pattern: encyclopedias AND [your topic] For example, if you follow the link encyclopedias AND genetics, you will find more than 20 titles in ALICE. |
